Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) seeks a Senior Construction Inspector in Virginia Beach to apply standard inspection procedures for structural quality, safety, and compliance with plans and codes. The role involves field work, coordination with clients, and supervision of inspection staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 7+ years of roadway construction inspection experience.
• Associates or bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering preferred.
• Supervisory experience in construction management/inspection situations.
• Ability to act as Owner’s Agent/Responsible in Charge.

Responsibilities

• Review plans and specs to ensure compliance with regulations.
• Perform routine materials tests (concrete, soils, etc.).
• Measure and verify elevations and alignment of structures.
• Coordinate and supervise inspection activities across phases.
• Draft project correspondence and facilitate meetings.
• Maintain record documents and field notes.

JMT's Virginia Beach Construction Management Team is seeking a Senior Construction Inspector to apply standard inspection procedures to ongoing activities during and after construction for structural quality, general safety and conformance to plans, specifications and codes.

Compensation for this position is $36.00 - $47.00 per hour, commensurate with experience, education and certifications. The provided range is a good faith estimate based on the requirements described within the job description. Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Review and interpret plans, site layouts, specifications and construction methods to ensure compliance to legal requirements and safety regulations
• Performs routine tests on concrete, soils and other materials
• Measure dimensions and verify level, alignment, and elevation of structures, fixtures, grades and/or pavement to ensure compliance to plans and codes
• Coordinate and supervise project inspection activities to ensure contractor compliance of plans, contract documents, specifications and standards
• Assign, schedule and maintain subordinate inspection staff throughout all phases of the project
• Work on behalf of the Client to draft project correspondence, facilitate project meetings, and resolve construction related field issues
• Gathers and maintains record documents
• Makes field notes and computations
• Interact with the general public, government agencies, contractors, sub-contractors, and other internal and external parties to respond to inquiries

VDOT Materials Division will start recognizing NICET Level II Certifications in Soils and Concrete.

** These certifications, Slurry Surfacing (SS) and Surface Treatment (ST), will be required by the Department at the time of issuing task orders involving such work.

Required Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent (may be substituted for experience)
• 7+ years of Roadway Construction Inspection Experience

Preferred Experience

• Associates or bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering
• Supervisory experience in construction management/inspection situations
• Ability to act in an Owner’s Agent/Responsible in Charge role

Working Conditions

Work is performed in the field. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
