Job summary

Greenman-Pedersen, Inc. (GPI) seeks a Director of Construction Inspection to lead and grow our Michigan operations in Detroit. This senior role supervises inspection teams and manages highway/bridge projects for public and private clients, driving quality, schedules, and client relations.

The successful candidate will bring a PE license (MI preferred), 10+ years’ MDOT/large-transportation experience, and strong leadership and business development skills in a fast-paced engineering environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
• PE license in Michigan preferred; ability to obtain Michigan PE registration strongly preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years of MDOT or heavy highway/bridge construction experience, in leadership roles.
• Strong understanding of transportation project delivery from design through construction and closeout.
• Experience managing construction engineering and inspection for MDOT, counties, municipalities, or other agencies.
• Proven business development and client relationship management skills.
• Excellent leadership, team-building, conflict resolution, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and expand construction inspection operations in Michigan for highway/bridge projects.
• Identify prospective clients and opportunities with MDOT and transportation authorities.
• Prepare SOQs, RFPs, and other marketing pursuits.
• Recruit, develop, and manage inspectors, engineers, and project managers.
• Establish strategic partnerships with clients, contractors, and partners.
• Oversee MDOT prequalifications and certifications related to construction engineering and inspection.
• Direct multiple highway, bridge, and transportation projects simultaneously.
• Ensure work complies with plans, specs, permits, and contracts.
• Lead project meetings and manage reviews of pay estimates, change orders, and records.
• Mentor staff and provide technical guidance on complex challenges.
