JOB SUMMARY
This role supports the transportation department by handling driver check-ins, processing returns, maintaining DOT compliance, and performing clerical tasks to support efficient nightly operations. This is a 2nd shift position, and additional shifts and overtime may be required based on business needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Check in returning drivers by verifying invoices, returned product, missed deliveries, and company property (pallets, totes, etc.).
- Inspect returns for restocking or customer credit eligibility, ensure food safety protocols are followed.
- Record delivery exceptions and apply correct reason/damage codes.
- Stage and separate returns; verify quantities and report overages for inventory re-entry.
- Review and process digital driver paperwork, including electronic logs, manifests, and vehicle inspection reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Dispatch drivers, including creating and distributing route packets, verifying equipment needs (pallet jacks, load bars, etc.), and ensuring all necessary documents and tools are prepared for a successful route start.
- Respond to driver and customer inquiries and assist with issue resolution.
- Answer phones, route calls, and relay messages.
- Run daily operational reports (e.g., observations, vehicle tracking).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- High school diploma or GED required.
Experience
- 2 years of prior customer service experience preferred.
- 2 years’ distribution/transportation experience in a high volume, route delivery operation preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
- Valid driver's license with a driving record that meets the company's insurability standards.

- Multitasking ability: Comfortable juggling phones, paperwork, driver check-ins, and data entry simultaneously.
- Customer service mindset: Professional and courteous when dealing with drivers, customers, and internal departments.
- Attention to detail: Critical for accurately processing paperwork, checking returned product, and logging data.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of DOT regulations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
- Valid driver’s license with insurable record.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and perform physical tasks as needed.
Must be available for second shift, including overtime and extra hours as needed.
