Bibb County School District | Macon, GA 31201

The Bibb County School District is now accepting applications for the position of Bus Driver.

Summary Description of Classification: Under general supervision, controls the operation of a school bus. Employees in this class are responsible for following an assigned route and schedule in the safe and efficient operation of a school bus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operates a school bus in transporting children to and from schools; may transport students on field trips and outings.
  • May transport wheelchair-bound students; assists such students in boarding bus; lifts and places wheelchairs in bus in a secure position; transports students' medical apparatus.
  • Operates vehicle in compliance with state and county laws and departmental regulations.
  • Takes precautions to avoid accidents.
  • Maintains order among students aboard the school bus and reports cases of misbehavior to school officials.
  • Assists students who become ill; cleans up as required.
  • Completes pre- and post-trip inspections of the bus. Checks gas, oil, and water daily. Responsible for the appearance of the assigned vehicle and for reporting mechanical defects upon detection to the repair shop.
  • Keeps records of operation of the bus and submits required reports; compiles and submits accident report information and reports prolonged traffic delays.
  • Attends safety meetings.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the position.
Education, Training and Experience
  • High School Diploma or State Approved High School Equivalency.
  • Five years of experience as a motor vehicle operator, during which time a valid driving license was held.
  • Satisfactory completion of a prescribed pre-service instructional program within a reasonable period of time.
  • Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered.

Certificate and License Requirements: Valid Georgia Commercial Drivers' License with S and P endorsements.

SALARY/TERMS/BENEFITS
  • 182 day work year; 5 hours per day.
  • Salary Range: Grade B45 (placement on salary schedule based on years of allowed related experience). The stated salary range reflects the opportunity for pay over the course of the employee's tenure. For External Candidates, the top salary is not a potential starting salary.
  • Excellent benefits package: includes health insurance; dental and life insurance; employee assistance program; personal and sick leave; membership in the Public Schools Employee Retirement System (PSERS).
