Transportation-Bus Driver (Sub)

Position: Transportation - Bus Driver

Responsible To: Director and Assistant Director of Transportation

Primary Responsibilities:

To provide safe and efficient transportation to and from school for students according to established routes and within established guidelines; to provide safe efficient transportation to students on extra-curricular or other non-route trips.

Qualifications:

  • Must hold CDL or the ability to obtain a CDL with Passenger, and School Bus Endorsements.
  • Willingness to qualify for a background check and pre-employment drug test as required by the state of Mo.
  • Excellent driving skills and possess a Missouri School Bus Driver Certificate.
  • Knowledge of transportation safety regulations and procedures.
  • Ability to deal with students in a courteous, but firm manner.
  • Ability to deal with adults in a responsible, courteous manner.
  • Able to make quick and responsible decisions.
  • Prior public transportation driving experience or commercial driving experience preferred.
  • Successful completion of annual health appraisal.
  • Ability to pass mandatory random drug tests.

Term Of Employment:

As needed.

Compensation:

In accordance with the District salary schedule.

Evaluation:

Yearly evaluation by Director/Assistant Director of Transportation

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Addresses behavior problems when necessary in order to maintain control, safety, maintains open communication with parents; reports major disciplinary problems to appropriate building principal in writing on School Bus Incident Form.
  • Attends safety meetings and other workshops to maintain high levels of safety awareness and procedures; as required.
  • Attend work regularly.
  • Completes paperwork such as student count, recording mileage, accident reports and vehicle maintenance requests.
  • Follow administrative directives regarding keeping buses clean and following all district protocols to maintain and operate equipment within district guidance and according to state law and district policy.
  • Comply with all district rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Drives specific routes transporting students to and from school; must be punctual.
  • Fuels bus as needed and provides appropriate reports on fuel usage.
  • Inspects bus for damage at end of each run; sweeps bus and leaves vehicles in clean condition.
  • Maintains courteous and professional relationships with pupils, parents/guardians, teachers and other employees of the district and all patrons of the district.
  • Obeys all District transportation policies and disciplinary standards.
  • Obeys all traffic laws and observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
  • Occasionally perform work beyond a standard 40-hour work week when workload requires.
  • Perform complete pre-trip inspection daily; report any noted mechanical problem on inspection form.
  • Performs other duties as directed by immediate supervisor.
  • Professionally represent the school and the District in interactions with parents, staff and students and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
  • Submit all required reports or paperwork at the time requested.
  • Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities as assigned.
  • Washes the bus as needed.
  • Other duties and responsibilities deemed necessary may be assigned as needed.

Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position. Must follow district policy on employee absences.

Hearing:

Must be able to hear a conversation in a noisy environment.

Language:

  • Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing in English.
  • Present information to students in an organized, and professional manner, which conveys professionalism to students, parents, peers, and stakeholders appropriately.
  • Read, analyze and interpret administrative correspondence and directives as well as Board policy and handbooks.
  • Keep student information confidential according to FERPA when required by law, except for from the building administration.

Physical Demands:

An individual who holds this position must frequently move in and around buildings and grounds, attend meetings and supervise designated areas. Ability to sit for up to six hours and turn head to both sides with full range of motion. Frequently required to stand, walk; sit; use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms using a keyboard and video display terminal. Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds. Repetitive motions with shoulder to open/close a bus door, movements to and from the floor, turning/twisting motions with all joints and waist, and push/pull on back, elbow, fingers, hands, shoulders, and wrists.

The work environment is consistent with a typical office environment; however, the individual who holds this position will occasionally be required to be outside in temperatures below freezing and above 100 degrees.

The individual who holds this position is occasionally, as designated in their contract, required to work irregular or extended hours for specific school events, such as school programs or conferences.
