Job summary

State of West Virginia’s Department of Motor Vehicles seeks a Transportation Accountant/Auditor to perform professional accounting duties in the Budget and Revenue section. You will handle journal entries, monitor budgets, and prepare financial statements with attention to compliance and accuracy.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting and at least one year of accounting experience; master’s or WV CPA substitution options are available as noted in the job description.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college and at least 24 semester hours in accounting.
• One year of full-time or equivalent paid professional accounting experience.
• Master’s degree in accounting may substitute for the required experience.
• Certification or registration as a public accountant in West Virginia may be substituted for the required training/education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic journal entries and monitor budgets and expenditure schedules.
• Prepare financial statements and analyze reports for compliance with accounting guidelines.
• Maintain proper accounting records and review general ledger accounts.
• Use independent judgment within policy guidelines and work under a supervisor.
