Job summary

Moffitt Cancer Center is seeking a Transportation Assistant to move patients safely throughout the facility and support clinical teams. The role emphasizes patient dignity, proper body mechanics, and timely transport, including transport of deceased patients and specimens to the lab.

Good communication with staff and families is essential. The ideal candidate has patient transport or care experience, knowledge of lifting techniques, and current BLS certification.

Qualifications

• Experience in patient transport or other patient care role.
• Working knowledge of lifting techniques with physical ability for lifting and standing.
• High school diploma or equivalent; Current BLS required.
• Strong communication with medical staff, patients, families and coworkers.
• Adherence to infection control policies and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Transports patients in a safe manner and seeks assistance when needed, using proper body mechanics.
• Transports deceased patients to the morgue and transports specimens from clinics to the lab.
• Informs nurse when taking patient off unit and returns patient to the unit; updates nursing staff on observed changes.
• Responds to code blues and RRTs and provides transport as needed.
• Assists in discharge by escorting patients and aiding into vehicle.
• Manages inventory of equipment and ensures proper storage.
• Maintains equipment and requests repairs as needed.
• Cleans wheelchairs/stretchers between patients and follows infection control policies.
• Communicates professionally with medical staff, patients, families and coworkers.

Informs nursing staff of all pertinent information and observed changes in patient's condition during or after transport.Responds to code blues and RRTs in the outpatient/inpatient areas and provides patient transport as needed.Assists in the discharge of the patients from the inpatient/outpatient units by escorting patients via wheelchair to the exit area and assisting the patient into the vehicle as needed.Manages inventory of equipment throughout the hospital; assuring equipment is stored in designated areas during the shift.Assists with the maintenance of equipment and deliver equipment needing repair to the appropriate department as requested.Follows infection control policies related but not limited to standard and isolation precautions.Thoroughly cleans wheelchairs and stretchers between patients with a disinfectant spray and setup linen.Communicates in a professional manner to medical staff, patients, families and coworkers.Credentials and Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalent required.Current BLS required.Salary Range$16.40 - $22.38Salary ranges posted for this position represent the expected base pay range for the role.
