Job summary

The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) in San Francisco, CA is seeking an Engineer III to support asset management, project delivery, and tolling infrastructure maintenance. The role emphasizes coordination with Caltrans, consultants, and contractors across planning, design, and operations.

You will manage scopes, schedules, and budgets, monitor performance, and help ensure safe, reliable transportation facilities for the nine-county Bay Area.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil or transportation engineering or related field and five years of professional engineering experience.
• Must possess or be eligible for a California PE license and strong project delivery background.
• Experience coordinating with Caltrans, consultants, contractors, and public agencies.

Responsibilities

• Manage operations, maintenance, asset management, and infrastructure projects (Toll Bridge Rehabilitation, Express Lanes, Open Road Tolling).
• Coordinate scope, schedule, budget, procurement, and stakeholder communications through all project phases.
• Oversee consultants and contractors, tracking performance, schedules, budgets, and contract compliance.
• Identify risks and develop corrective actions; communicate issues to management and committees.
• Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders including Caltrans and public agencies; prepare reports and presentations.
• Perform field visits, inspections, and verification of work; serve as on-call maintenance representative as needed.
