Vanasse Hangen Brustlin Inc. (VHB) is seeking a Transportation and Highway Design Intern for Summer 2027 in Wethersfield, CT.

You will gain hands-on experience by supporting transportation projects, working with engineers, designers and planners on real-world tasks. You'll apply classroom knowledge to project design, prepare drawings in AutoCAD or MicroStation, manage data, and coordinate with team members to meet schedules.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering or a related field.

Transportation and Highway Design Intern - Summer 2027

Temporary Full-Time

ABOUT THE POSITION

Gain hands-on transportation engineering and highway design experience with VHB's Wethersfield, Connecticut team during summer 2027. As an intern, you'll work alongside engineers, designers, and planners to support transportation projects of varying sizes and complexity.

This opportunity will allow you to apply classroom knowledge to real-world projects, strengthen your technical skills, and learn how multidisciplinary teams develop solutions that improve transportation infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Support transportation engineering and highway design projects in collaboration with experienced professionals.
• Assist with preparing and updating design drawings using CADD software, such as AutoCAD and/or Bentley MicroStation.
• Create, organize, and use geospatial transportation data to support project analysis and design.
• Prepare documents and spreadsheets, and organize and analyze project data.
• Coordinate with project team members to complete assigned tasks accurately and on schedule.
• Collaborate across disciplines to support the development of transportation design solutions.

• Interest in transportation engineering and highway design.
• Familiarity with roadway design, transportation planning, and traffic engineering principles is a plus.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering or a related field.

The hourly pay range for this position, located in Connecticut, is $19 to $30. The actual hourly rate offered will be determined based on job-related factors, including geographic location, internal equity, experience, credentials, skills, education, work schedule, and other factors permitted by law. The posted hourly range reflects base pay only. Additional compensation and benefits available to eligible employees are outlined in our Total Rewards Program.
