Job summary

McHenry School District 15 Transportation Department is seeking a Transportation Aide to support bus safety and student assistance. The role is 174 days per year with a 20-hour workweek, start ASAP, and reports to the Director of Transportation.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent and the ability to communicate clearly. This position requires teamwork with the bus driver and school staff to ensure safe student transportation.

  • Ensures student safety devices are secured and handled with care.
  • Assists students with mobility needs.
  • Maintains acceptable attendance and punctuality.
  • Maintains confidentiality of students.
  • Demonstrates patience and uses effective listening and communication with staff, students and parents.

Terms of Employment: 174 Days – Monday through Friday (20 hours)

Minimum Qualifications/Required Skills
  1. High School Diploma or equivalent, previous experience preferred.
  2. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
Essential Job Functions
  1. Follows all established policies/procedures related to student transportation and bus safety, including emergency procedures related to bus evacuation.
  2. Demonstrates acceptance and empathy for students with disabilities.
  3. Monitors student behavior and collaborates with bus driver and school administrator regarding appropriate interventions.
  4. Assists with loading and unloading procedures.
  5. Ensures that student safety devices are properly secured and handled with care.
  6. Assists students with mobility needs.
  7. Maintains acceptable attendance and is punctual.
  8. Maintains strict adherence to student confidentiality.
  9. Demonstrates patience, consistency and uses appropriate verbal, non-verbal and good listening skills.
  10. Communicates effectively with staff, students and parents.
Pay and Benefits
  1. $16.75/hour
  2. Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF Pension).
