Job summary

BrightStar Care in Sacramento seeks a dedicated aide to assist the van driver in safely transporting clients to and from Day Program. The role requires attention to behavioral and medical needs during transit and includes basic first aid, light record keeping, and clear communication with families and staff.

Responsibilities include helping with loading/unloading, monitoring passenger safety, securing wheelchairs and car seats, and following all health and safety regulations.

Qualifications

• Must be patient and courteous with others, including parents, coworkers, and the general public.
• Sitting for extended periods of time.
• Hearing and speaking to exchange information.
• Reaching, pulling, and pushing to open van doors or windows.
• Reaching overhead, above the shoulders or horizontally.
• Ability to monitor passengers.
• Secure wheelchair students (tie downs) and car seats, or safety vest attachments.
• Daily vehicle check for personal belongings left behind.

Responsibilities

• Redirect behaviors and ensure physical safety of individuals during transportation.
• Assist in loading and unloading passengers and monitor their ride to and from Day Program.
• Help arrange seating to keep everyone safe and secure.
• Provide basic first aid.
• Keep simple records.
• Communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
• Follow Health and Safety regulations and attend safety meetings.

Job description

The aide assists the van driver in safely transporting clients to and from Day Program. An aide is needed during transportation with students and/or individuals that have behavioral and/or medical needs.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for redirectingbehaviors and physical safety of individuals while in transportation
• Assist in loading and unloading special needs individuals and to monitor their ride to and from Day Program
• Assist in managing the seating of the passengers so that everyone is safe and secure
• Basic first aid
• Basic record keeping
• Oral and written communication skills
• Follow Health and Safety regulations
• Attend safety meetings
• High School diploma or equivalent

REQUIREMENTS and QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be patient and courteous with others, including, but not limited to parents, coworkers, and the general public
• Sitting for extended periods of time

• Ability to monitor passengers
• Should be in good physical condition to be able to secure wheelchair students (including tie downs), strapping a child into a car seat or booster seat, hooking up a child in a safety vest or fastening a seat belt
• Must check inside vehicle daily, front to back for any personal belongings left behind
