Job summary

BrightStar Care - Anchorage is seeking a transportation aide to assist the van driver in safely transporting clients to and from Day Program. The role supports students and/or individuals with behavioral and medical needs during trips.

Responsibilities include redirecting behaviors, loading/unloading passengers, monitoring ride, ensuring seating safety, performing basic first aid, and maintaining simple records.

Responsibilities

• Redirect behaviors and ensure physical safety of individuals during transportation
• Assist in loading and unloading special needs individuals and monitor their ride to and from Day Program
• Assist in seating passengers to ensure safety and security
• Provide basic first aid

• Communicate orally and in writing

Job description

The aide assists the van driver in safely transporting clients to and from Day Program. An aide is needed during transportation with students and/or individuals that have behavioral and/or medical needs.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for redirectingbehaviors and physical safety of individuals while in transportation
• Assist in loading and unloading special needs individuals and to monitor their ride to and from Day Program
• Assist in managing the seating of the passengers so that everyone is safe and secure
• Basic first aid
• Basic record keeping
• Oral and written communication skills
• Follow Health and Safety regulations
• Attend safety meetings
• High School diploma or equivalent

REQUIREMENTS and QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be patient and courteous with others, including, but not limited to parents, coworkers, and the general public
• Sitting for extended periods of time
• Hearing and speaking to exchange information
• Reaching, pulling, and pushing to open van doors or windows
• Reaching overhead, above the shoulders or horizontally
• Ability to monitor passengers
• Should be in good physical condition to be able to secure wheelchair students (including tie downs), strapping a child into a car seat or booster seat, hooking up a child in a safety vest or fastening a seat belt
• Must check inside vehicle daily, front to back for any personal belongings left behind
