Job summary

Kaiser Permanente in Downey, CA, is seeking a hospital transporter responsible for moving patients, equipment, and specimens across the medical center. The role requires patient care awareness, adherence to policies, and compliance with BLS within one month of hire.

Responsibilities include transporting patients by wheelchair or gurney, picking up and delivering specimens and equipment, and assisting during emergencies (Code Blue). This is an on-call position with variable days and hours.

Qualifications

• Six months of prior experience in general patient care or hospital transportation.
• Per the National Agreement, current KP Coalition employees have this requirement waived.
• Demonstrated ability to follow written and oral directions; strong communication skills.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) within 1 month of hire.

Responsibilities

• Transport patients within the Medical Center by wheelchair or gurney (pre-operative, post-operative, Hemodialysis, etc.).
• Picks up laboratory specimens, blood, equipment, supplies, and delivers to appropriate locations; handles timely data reports.
• Transport expired patients to the morgue under escort as required.
• Move soiled patient equipment and supplies to Central Processing; move equipment between units as requested.
• Perform CPR and respond to Code Blue pages as necessary; perform related duties as required.

Job Summary

Under immediate supervision, transports patients, medical equipment, laboratory specimens and supplies within all areas of the medical center.

Essential Responsibilities

• Upholds Kaiser Permanentes Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities and applicable state, federal and local laws. Transports patients (pre-operative, post-operative, Hemodialysis etc.) by wheel chair or gurney within the Medical Center. Picks up routine and STAT requests for laboratory specimens, blood, equipment, supplies, and other appropriate materials (medical or other) including data reports on regular routes or as required and delivers to appropriate location in hospital facility. With an escort by a Security Officer, transports expired patients to the morgue. Picks up soiled patient equipment and supplies from Nursing units and transports to Central Processing. Transports equipment from NICU to central processing as requested. Performs CPR and responds to Code Blue Pages as necessary. Performs other related duties as required.

Basic Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED Valid Class C California Drivers License and a current California Driver Record Information Sheet. Must have a driving record free of accidents involving the applicants negligence. Also free of citations with forfeit of bail for driving while intoxicated or driving while under the influence of drugs or reckless driving.
• Nursing Aide certification.
