UVA Health is seeking a Transportation Aide to assist Medical Imaging and other departments with the safe transport of patients and items. The role includes basic patient care duties and requires working evenings, holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, with prior patient care or EMT experience preferred. Strong communication and teamwork are essential to support staff and patients across UVA Community Health locations.

JOB SUMMARY

Assist Medical Imaging and other hospital departments with safe transport of patients and other items as needed. Provides basic patient care duties as needed. Works assigned scheduled shift ndash; including overtime, holidays, weekends, and evenings.Some of the major job functions include, but are not limited to:Greets and provides assistance to misguided or lost visitors.Answers cell phone or carries pager.Adheres to hospital and departmental policies.Assists in training and orientation of other employees.Perform other duties as requested.Transports equipment, supplies or other patient related items as needed.Routinely clean equipment and identifies equipment in need of repair.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

High School Diploma or GED.

Experience:

Previous experience in a patient care setting or EMT preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.

Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with health care workers and patients. Ability to work in a stressful environment. Must be able to work as a ldquo;team playerrdquo; with medical staff, nursing staff, MI staff, patients, and visitors.

• Patient Care: Ensures patient safety and comfort while in the radiology department.
  • Explains the procedure and post-procedure orders to the patient to gain cooperation and minimize anxiety.
  • Prioritizes workflow in regard to patient condition and ensures patients’ arrival and departure occur in a timely manner.
  • Provides an atmosphere conducive to gain the patient’s cooperation and confidence.
  • Utilizes data received from patient satisfaction and practice performance results to identify opportunities to improve and participates in the planning and improvement process.
• Compliance: Follows and supports OSHA regulations and uses universal precautions when required.
  • Cleans examination surfaces between patients.
  • Provides clean linen including sheets, gowns, pillowcases, and towels.
  • Immediately cleans spills following universal precautions.
  • Properly stores accessory equipment when not in use.
• Teamwork: Works within a team to achieve patient and team goals.
  • Shares and initiates regular and professional communication with co-workers.
  • Facilitates and participates in regular staff meetings.
• Technical Competency: Follows routine standards and properly and safely manipulates equipment, within its limitations, to obtain images.
  • Maintains sterile equipment and fields.
  • Adjusts cameras to obtain the proper density and contrast.
  • Performs any necessary warm-up and quality control procedures on the equipment.
  • Uses protocols to obtain images of internal structures.
  • Critiques images for quality and makes necessary judgments to determine if repeat is necessary.

The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Physical Demand Code:

Medium to Heavy Physical Demand: The job requires constant standing, frequently walking, and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull 100 lbs. For any weight over 35 lbs., use Safe Handling Equipment.   The base compensation range for this role is $17.28 - $23.42 hourly.
  Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education. Please note that the pay range does not include any applicable incentive compensation programs such as shift differentials, clinical ladders, and other incentives that may be available for those in eligible positions.
