Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2 years experience in transplant or related field.
• Ability to assess customer financial needs and relay to staff.
• Expert knowledge of third-party insurance medical benefits and billing.
• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and understand rights.
• Understanding oncology treatments and related insurance coverage.
• Compassion paired with professional skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform financial screening of patients for transplantation including outpatient prescription drug coverage and follow-up visits.
• Identify and communicate financial information to patients and families with focus on out-of-pocket costs.
• Discuss benefits and other transplant financial concerns with patients during evaluation.
• Advise patients on insurance and billing issues and options.
• Serve as resource for patients/family members.
• Work with patients, family and team to address insurance coverage gaps and find funding sources.
• Obtain payor authorizations and pre-certifications, verify transplant coverage and other medical benefits.
• Acquire necessary referrals and authorizations.
• Act as contact for insurance case managers for pre-certification and authorizations.
• Collect and submit necessary documentation and correspondence.
• Perform follow-up communications.
• Stay up-to-date on regulations to ensure maximum financial coverage.
• Adhere to governing body regulations.
• Complete time studies monthly.
• Monitor and update insurance data, physicians, authorizations, and preferred providers.
• Assist patients with questions concerning insurance and other financial issues.
