Job summary

FirstEnergy invites applications for a Scoping & Estimating Engineer. The role focuses on creating project scopes and estimates for transmission line and substation projects, collaborating with engineers, analysts, and designers across internal and external teams.

Minimum 3 years in engineering with ABET-accredited BS degrees; FE/PE preferred. The position emphasizes quality, safety, and effective communication with project sponsors and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• BSEE/BSCE/BSME from ABET-accredited school.
• PE license or FE certificate preferred.
• Minimum 3 years engineering experience.
• Ability to read/interpret technical documents for estimates.

Responsibilities

• Analyze technical documents to develop conceptual estimates for projects.
• Determine cost drivers and document risks/uncertainties.
• Develop project plan and material lists with input from Sponsors.
• Review estimates for adequacy and initiate revisions as needed.
• Ensure designs meet FE standards and safety requirements.
• Evaluate scope feasibility and preliminary layouts for safety.
• Maintain scope/estimates through project phases and document changes.
• Provide project status reports and support emergent needs.
• Validate estimates including contingencies and escalation.
• Oversee consultants and contractors; assure QA/QC.
• Communicate goals and decisions to regions and corporate teams.
• Support continuous improvement of estimating tools and processes.
• Participate in industry meetings (IEEE, EPRI) when applicable.
