Job description

Transmission Planning Engineer - East

This position is responsible for conducting and evaluating transmission planning studies on the Georgia Integrated Transmission System (ITS) in order to create expansion plans that reliably and economically meet the needs of all transmission users.

Successful candidate will lead solution teams, participate in the budgeting, prioritization and project development, and management of proposed projects. This position interfaces with Georgia Power Customer Service Organization clients and external Transmission System planning contacts.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline required - Electrical preferred, but other areas may be acceptable with proper experience; master’s degree in an engineering discipline or in Business Administration is desirable.

  • Engineering related experience in planning, design, maintenance, or operation of transmission system required.

  • Basic knowledge of bulk power operations, transmission system planning or design, and/or system protective schemes

  • Understanding of the principles of economic evaluation

  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of PSSE and ACCESS a plus

  • Understanding of capital budgets

  • Understanding of NERC/SERC reliability standards

  • Proven effective interpersonal, analytical, communication, teamwork, negotiation and presentation skills

  • Ability to work productively as a team player or independently as required

  • Ability to modify and enhance computer programs and develop methodologies to enhance efficiency
