- Bachelor of Science in Civil / Structural or Electrical Engineering.
- 2+ years of electrical utility Transmission Line design experience (as an employee, contractor, or consultant) with a working knowledge of High Voltage Transmission line design at voltage levels of 69kV and higher.
- Technical competency or familiarity with general aspects of Transmission Line utility design, including general arrangement and layout of structures; understanding of functions and applications of all Line components (hardware, poles, permits, survey, clearances, loading); understanding of foundation design, grounding, lightning and shielding protection, sag and tension limits; etc.
- Knowledge of a complete detailed bill of materials required for constructing Transmission Lines.
- Ability to ensure that a complete design package (drawings, bill of materials, conduit lists, construction specifications, etc.) is delivered to the client within budget and on time, maintaining a high level of quality.
- Working knowledge of standards such as NESC, ASCE, ACI, and IEEE.
Working knowledge and experience to perform:
- Total installed cost estimating
- Preparation of specifications and contract documents
- Effective collaboration, communication, and liaison with other design disciplines, colleagues, construction contractors, consultants, material suppliers, and clients
- Site visits, advising on transmission line engineering issues, and modifying designs during construction
- General project management capabilities to accomplish projects efficiently
- Assisting the Project Manager in preparing and reviewing proposals and contracts
- Supporting design needs for permitting activities
- Experience working in a field or construction environment implementing or verifying engineering drawings
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from a four-year college or university.
Engineering degree from an ABET-accredited college or university.
Experience
1-3+ years of experience as an engineer in the power delivery industry.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
EIT, working towards PE license; PE license for level III and above.
Language Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals and operational procedures.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Respond effectively to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or the business community.
Mathematical Skills:
- Apply concepts like fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Perform calculations involving rate, ratio, percent, and interpret spreadsheets.
Reasoning Ability:
- Interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, dealing with multiple variables.
- Solve practical problems with limited standardization.
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles.
- Researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making recommendations, and presenting findings.
- Ability to work independently or with limited supervision.
- Effective communication with diverse individuals.
- Understanding of electrical engineering concepts relevant to civil-structural designs.
- Self-motivated and proactive work attitude.
