Job summary

AES Indiana is seeking a Transmission Line Design Engineer to support the planning, design, and construction of transmission line infrastructure across our electric system. You will work with engineering, operations, project management, and field teams to gain hands-on experience in line routing, structural design, LIDAR data analysis, and right-of-way coordination.

AES Indiana is seeking a Transmission Line Design Engineer to support the engineering, design, and construction of new and existing transmission line infrastructure across our electric system.

In this role, you will contribute to the planning, design, and implementation of transmission line projects, working closely with engineering, operations, project management, and field teams. You will gain hands‑on experience in line routing, structural design, LIDAR data analysis, construction support, right‑of‑way coordination, and system reliability initiatives. This position offers the opportunity to work on projects that directly support the safe and reliable delivery of power to our customers.

You will also play an important role during system emergencies, storm restoration efforts, and major outage events.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform assigned engineering tasks while developing technical, planning, and project management skills.
  • Complete engineering calculations and analyses related to transmission line structures and support systems.
  • Support the planning, design, and construction management of transmission line projects.
  • Assist with root cause analyses of transmission line failures and develop recommendations to improve system reliability.
  • Apply AES Indiana engineering standards, industry practices, and utility regulations under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and industry organizations to expand technical expertise.
  • Assist in maintaining transmission design standards, specifications, and engineering databases.
  • Support storm response activities and system restoration efforts for transmission lines and substation feeders.
  • Conduct research, analysis, and special projects and present findings and recommendations to management.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to procure transmission line structures, materials, and equipment.
  • Work closely with T&D Planning to implement transmission system improvement projects.
  • Coordinate with contractors, construction crews, and maintenance personnel to provide field engineering support.
  • Support System Operations by communicating capabilities, limitations, and impacts of transmission system modifications.
  • Provide project performance updates, including labor forecasts, budget tracking, and cost reporting.
  • Support Purchasing with vendor evaluations, qualifications, and procurement recommendations.
  • Assist Property Accounting with project closeout activities and property unit classifications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering .
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts and engineering solutions to engineers, field personnel, and non-technical stakeholders.
