Title:

Transmission Controls Engineer – Intermediate - 666

Location:

Auburn Hills, Michigan

Responsibilities:

The Transmission Controls Engineer - Intermediate will support the design, development, implementation, and testing of drive strategy controls, focusing on shift scheduling, TCC release/lock-up, and potentially line pressure control, shift-by-wire, signal integrity, shift lever analysis, and implementation. This role may also involve supporting product reviews for current and advanced transmission products to ensure controls meet requirements for controllability, robustness, and durability, and proposing algorithm changes as needed. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Design and develop transmission control algorithms and validate these for production implementation
• Create requirements for implementing algorithms into transmission software
• Perform verification and validation of algorithms using SIL/HIL and in-vehicle testing
• Establish and execute design verification plans for control logic development
• Conduct design failure mode effects analysis for control logic changes
• Support hardware improvements and cost reduction efforts through control logic development and quality initiatives
• Assist in transmission calibration efforts, including calibration guide development and base calibration
• Verify and release transmission calibrations for production

Qualifications:

• Four-year degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field
• At least 2 years of experience in automotive electronic systems or related industry, developing safety-critical requirements, software, or hardware systems
• Knowledge of fault tree analysis and FMEA
• Understanding of OBD certification process and CARB submission for OBD compliance
• Proficiency with productivity tools (MS Office Suite)
• Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
• Self-motivated, capable of working cross-functionally
• Track record of completing tasks efficiently
• Basic knowledge of microcontroller hardware and embedded software
• Ability to collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and controls disciplines

Preferred Qualifications:

• Advanced or Master’s degree in Engineering
• Deep understanding of powertrain functions and control algorithms related to combustion engines and transmissions
• Experience with risk analysis and fault-tolerant redundancy architectures
• Training in requirement management tools
• Experience with automotive development and calibration tools (ETAS, INCA, CDA, Vector, DOORS)
