Job summary

Patriot Service Company in East Chicago, IN is seeking a Transload Operator to safely receive, load, and stage bulk materials from railcars into trucks. Responsibilities include operating forklifts, performing safety checks, and maintaining tidy work areas.

Responsibilities

• Receive and load products safely and timely for transport.
• Safely load products onto trucks and railcars.
• Perform daily forklift safety checks and maintenance reporting.
• Operate sit-down forklifts and other material handling equipment.
• Maintain clean and organized work area.
• Follow SOPs and JSAs; wear required PPE for heights and respirator program.
• Facilitate transfer of bulk liquids from railcars to tank trucks.

Description

Specific Responsibilities to Include:

• Outbound and inbound inventory receiving, etc,
• Safely and timely prepare and load products for transport.
• Safely and timely stage products for loading.
• Safely and timely load products onto truck, and/or railcar.
• Responsible for quality control - damaged products.
• Operate within standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Job Safety Analysis (JSAs).
• Operate sit down forklifts and other material handling equipment.
• Perform daily forklift safety checks, preventive maintenance and report any issues.
• Communicate with team members and supervisors.
• Keep clean and maintain work area.
• Turn off and lock out equipment when not in use.
• Facilitate the loading from railcars into tank trucks: This involves ensuring the safe and efficient transfer of bulk liquid products from railcars to tank trucks.
• Physical requirements: The role involves lifting, carrying, and working in various positions to perform vehicle inspections and load/unload cargo. This includes hoses, dunnage, etc.
• Applicant must be able to work at heights above 4 ft and don the appropriate fall protection PPE.
• Applicants must be able to be certified to wear a respirator and meet all requirements of the respiratory program.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements of a successful Transload Operator:

• Read, write, and understand English
• Basic math skills
• Valid Driver's License
• Capable to learn how to operate and maintain railcar/trans loading equipment (e.g., Hoses, portable conveyors, transfer pumps, portable stair systems, small to medium sized equipment, etc.)
• Ability and willingness to travel to other transload terminals to assist when necessary

Here are some of the physical requirements for this role:

• Physically able to climb up and down railcars/ladders safely
• Willing to receive general safety training
• Ability to work outside in ALL weather conditions (snow, rain, sub-freezing temps)
• Willing to work with liquid hazardous and dry bulk materials
• Can carry at least fifty (50) pounds
• In good physical condition (able to walk one (1) to two (2) miles per shift)
