Description

Under the supervision of the IDD Supported Employment Program Administrator, the Transition Employment Specialist will work with youth aged 16-22 with ID/DD and collaborative partners to strengthen the employment transition system within Collin County. The goal is to increase the number of youths with disabilities pursuing and achieving post-secondary education, careers, and independent living aspirations. Responsibilities include teaching employability skills, understanding work culture, networking with local employers for work experiences, supporting individuals on work sites, and participating in collaborative meetings with schools, community resources, and employers.

Additional responsibilities:

  • Create at least 5 activities for work experience opportunities across various industries through networking.
  • Create at least 5 activities for career exploration, post-secondary education, or community exploration, such as tours or job shadowing.
  • Provide work experience training following Vocational Rehabilitation Service Standards.
  • Develop and host classes or workshops on Pre-Employment Transition Services in partnership with local ISDs.
  • Engage with individuals to provide exceptional customer service aligned with grant goals.
  • Support individuals in developing their Cognitopia portfolios.
  • Conduct presentations on 'Building My Future.'
  • Attend all required collaboration meetings.
  • Maintain monthly communication with individuals, families, school personnel, and counselors.
  • Complete 90% of documentation within 48 business hours.
  • Accurately maintain activity records and ensure billing documentation is submitted within 5 days.
  • If applicable, ensure services and placements are provided as per individual plans.
Qualifications

Education, Training, and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation, Business, Marketing, or related Human Services (preferred), OR
  • High school diploma or GED with two years of experience working with students with disabilities, verified by pay statements or verification letter, plus at least 30 semester hours of college credit (minimum 15 in relevant fields), OR
  • 60 hours of college credit in relevant fields.

Additional requirements include completion of an approved Job Coach / Job Skills Trainer Credential and Job Placement Specialist Credential within 90 days of employment, and maintaining all required UNTWISE certifications and CEUs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work independently, organize tasks, and prioritize effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including billing documentation.
  • Ability to develop employment opportunities and track due dates.
  • Ability to break down tasks and develop training plans.
  • Proficiency with office equipment and technology.
  • Resilience in outcome-based service delivery and non-judgmental attitude toward clients.
  • Ability to utilize professional supervision constructively.
