Job summary

Town of Blacksburg is seeking a semiskilled maintenance worker to service, lubricate, and repair transit vehicles under the supervision of the Lead Mechanic.

Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, road tests, tire/brake work, and keeping records. Must have high school diploma or GED and 3–5 years' experience. CDL Class B with Air Brakes is required; pre-employment drug screening applies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Three to five years experience in the maintenance and servicing of automotive and power-driven equipment.
• Valid CDL B with Air Brakes and P endorsement is required (Virginia).

Responsibilities

• Checks buses and ensures buses are in safe operating condition.
• Performs repairs or holds buses as needed.
• Performs scheduled preventive maintenance service on gas and diesel powered vehicles and diagnoses problems.
• Replaces parts as necessary; rebuilds bus parts and assemblies.
• Trains new staff on safe equipment use and operation.
