Job summary

The City of Amarillo is seeking a Utility Worker to maintain cleanliness and fuel Transit Department vehicles, including fixed-route buses and staff cars. The role includes operating the bus wash, performing routine vehicle cleaning, and reporting issues to mechanics to ensure timely maintenance.

Minimum requirements include a high school diploma (or equivalent) and a Texas driver’s license; ability to obtain a Class B CDL within 1 year; non-exempt status and hourly-pay of $14.00.

Qualifications

• Requires a High School Diploma or its equivalent and a minimum of six months of general labor experience preferred.
• A Valid Texas Driver's License is required.
• Must be able to obtain a valid Texas Class B CDL within 1 year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Fuels and cleans Transit Department vehicles, including buses, Spec-Trans vans and staff cars.
• Operates the bus wash and maintains cleaning supplies and equipment.
• Performs routine cleaning of vehicle interiors and exteriors and completes related paperwork.
• Ensures safety by following footwear and PPE policies and reporting issues.
• Supports Extra Board Operators and assists in organizing duties as needed.
