King County Metro Transit’s Facilities divisionhas an exciting opportunity for a Transit Utility Laborer. Transit Utility Laborers perform a wide variety of tasks and semi-skilled work throughout the King County Metro Transit service area. Primary areas of work include bus shelter cleaning, landscape/grounds maintenance, and semi-skilled assistance for the skilled trades.

This recruitment will immediately fill one (1) Career Service positionand may also be used to create a pool to fill future Career Service vacancies within this classification and division. Eligibility pools remain valid for 12 months upon creation, or until the pool is exhausted, at the discretion of the hiring authority.
Interviews are anticipated to occur beginning the week of July 21, 2025, but dates are subject to change.

Please note: Vacancies in the Utility Laborer classification will first be filled by qualified Transit Facilities Division employees with a lower pay grade that gives consideration to suitable skillset, work history, then offered by seniority.
WAGE INFORMATION
Qualified candidates typically start at the mid-point of the established pay range, depending on candidate qualifications. The top step of the pay range is achieved within three (3) years or less through automatic step progression, depending on initial step placement at time of hire. The pay range for day shift is $28.39 to $40.55 per hour. The mid-point salary step is currently $36.50 per hour for day shift.
Shift differential applies if assigned a swing/afternoon or overnight/graveyard shift. Shift differential for swing shift is 5% in addition to day shift wages; shift differential for overnight shift is 7.5% in addition to day shift wages.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND LOCATION
This position performs work both indoors and outdoors, which may include in inclement weather. Indoor environments may involve dust and noise. Some environments may require the use of a respirator and/or hearing protection.
Employees report to one of two work locations, including our North Facilities Maintenance location (12525 Stone Ave N; Seattle, WA 98133) and our South Facilities Maintenance location (11911 E Marginal Way S; Seattle, WA 98168). Work occurs throughout the King County Metro Transit service area.
WORK SCHEDULE
These positions are anticipated to be full time, assigned 40 hours per week. Schedules can include day, swing, and overnight shifts, and work on weekends, holidays, and other non-standard workdays. These positions are non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, and are eligible for overtime pay with supervisor approval. These positions are not eligible for telework/remote work.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
These positions require physical skill which may involve bending, kneeling, standing, walking, reaching, climbing, stooping, squatting, pushing, pulling, twisting, and lifting/moving up to 50 pounds in order to perform duties such as loading/hauling refuse and garbage, grounds/lawn maintenance and mowing, shoveling snow, paving or concrete repairs, moving furniture and equipment, and pressure washing/steam cleaning. This position may also require working at heights with use of appropriate fall protection.
