Job summary

WMATA's Metro Transit Police Department offers a summer internship program for college and graduate students, providing hands-on insight into law enforcement and public safety. Interns rotate through areas such as patrol operations, community engagement, crime scene investigations, SWAT, K-9, training, recruiting, and more, gaining exposure to transit operations and safety procedures.

This is an introductory training opportunity designed to help students build professional skills and networks

Qualifications

• Must be a college or graduate student pursuing relevant studies.
• Ability to analyze data and prepare reports is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Compiles, reviews and analyzes data for reports and presentations.
• Researches data for management and operations reports and prepares accompanying documents.
• Produces tangible work products such as reports, presentations, and data visualizations for the assigned department.
• Reviews reports and, per guidance, identifies problems and recommends solutions.
• Participates in training sessions and attends department meetings to gain exposure to transit functions.
• Participates in and/or leads departmental meetings and work sessions.
• Promotes safety awareness and reporting of safety concerns in line with the Agency Safety Plan.
