Job summary

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is seeking a Power Cable Maintainer to inspect, repair and install power feeder and communication cable systems across the system. This is a civil service position with promotion paths from a related title and requires passing a civil service exam to gain permanent status.

Under supervision, you will work outdoors, climb ladders, handle asbestos materials, operate vehicles, and participate in safety programs.

Qualifications

• Completion of a four-year full-time electrical line worker apprenticeship or equivalent
• Four years of full-time journey-level electrical experience in high-voltage power distribution and cables
• Graduation from a trade/technical school with major study in electrical technology or related field (600 hours)
• New York State Department of Labor or U.S. Department of Labor recognized credentials preferred

Responsibilities

• Maintain, install, inspect, test, alter and repair power feeder and communication cable systems, aerial and underground
• Splice cables, test for faults, replace faulty sections, and handle asbestos-containing materials
• Work outdoors in all weather, climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and operate vehicles
• Follow safety protocols and assist in reports and related duties
