  • Substitution: up to three years of additional college or university education (30 credit hours per year, with 6+ credit hours in electrical or mechanical engineering).
  • Military service substitution is permissible for equivalent staff work experience.
  • Exposure to hazardous materials and on-call availability 24 hours/day with reliable communication; adherence to safety equipment use.

  • Oversee repair, maintenance, service, cleaning, installation, inspection, testing, and operation of electro‑mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, roofing, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Travel to various MTA locations as required; work variable shifts including evenings, nights, and weekends.

Supervisor, Metro Plant Maintenance

Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is seeking a Supervisor, Metro Plant Maintenance to direct and coordinate day‑to‑day maintenance services across the MTA metro facilities. The Supervisor will manage staffing, scheduling, procurement, and oversee repair, maintenance, service, cleaning, installation, inspection, testing, and operation of electro‑mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, roofing, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, fire management systems, deluge, station ventilation, intrusion detection, and related equipment. The role includes supervising repairmen, janitors, and contract employees, working variable shifts (including evenings, nights, and weekends) and traveling to various MTA locations as required.

Qualifications
  • Education: high school diploma, general education diploma, or high school equivalency certificate.
  • Experience: at least five (5) years of experience in the repair, maintenance, installation, inspection, testing, or operation of electrical and HVAC systems; plumbing, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems; fuel pumps and dispensing systems; electro‑mechanical electronic systems; or escalator/elevator systems.
  • Substitution: Additional accredited college or university education may substitute up to three years of experience (30 credit hours per year, with at least 6 credit hours in electrical or mechanical engineering).
  • Military service substitution is permissible for equivalent staff work experience.
  • Special requirements: exposure to hazardous materials (toxic substances, asbestos, flammable agents), on‑call availability 24 hours a day with reliable communication, and adherence to safety equipment use.
Licenses & Certifications
  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License valid in the state of Maryland, or a Class A Commercial Driver’s License permit at the time of employment (obtain full CDL before end of probationary period).
Safety & Compliance

Employees must adhere to all safety rules, policies, regulations, and personal protective equipment requirements. They may attend safety meetings and must report hazards, unsafe acts, near misses, injuries, and accidents promptly to the Office of Safety and supervision. Violations of safety rules or negligent behavior may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
