Job Description

MARTA is offering a $5,000 signing bonus for all lateral Georgia POST certified Police Officers & Dispatchers and a $3,000 signing bonus for non-certified personnel who commit to three years with MPD. MPD provides a consolidated hiring process for out-of-town applicants and assistance with relocation. Additionally, MPD offers $5,000 tuition reimbursement for employees pursuing career-related classes. POST Certified MPD Officers and Dispatchers also receive a monthly contribution to their Peace Officer Annuity Benefit Fund.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License

Applicants must pass all relevant tests, including a Background Investigation, criminal history check, Computer Voice Stress Test, and credit check. They must also pass a physical exam, drug/alcohol screening, and psychological testing. New employees without a current Georgia POST certification will begin their six-month probationary period upon successful completion of POST training.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform patrol activities, including vehicle and foot patrols, traffic control, security checks, crowd control, and assisting persons in distress (including providing emergency medical care).
  • Carry out apprehension and arrest procedures; issue warnings and citations; investigate accidents, complaints, and incidents; preserve crime scenes; gather evidence; testify in court.
  • Operate communication equipment and police vehicles; follow procedures regarding firearms and use of force; maintain equipment.
  • Prepare accurate police reports; complete training; adhere to the Police Services Dress Code.
  • Communicate with the public; address questions and complaints tactfully; aim to provide a safe, secure, and customer-oriented system.
  • Learn and apply federal regulations, local ordinances, state law, and MARTA Police procedures.

Salary Range: $29.33 - $41.72 per hour

Salary Grade: 8P
