Job summary

The City of Charlotte is seeking an entry‑level Transit Planner I to support transit planning, service planning, GIS needs, and related initiatives across the agency’s service area. Under supervision, you will assist with data collection, field work, and preparation of technical materials to support service improvements and planning studies.

This role is designed to be broadly applicable within planning, enabling development of core professional capabilities in public transit planning practice

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, transportation planning, geography, or related field.
• Experience with GIS and planning software preferred.
• Internships or public-sector planning experience considered.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing transit services and corridor improvements.
• Collect ridership and performance data to support decisions.
• Support field assessments of stops and routes.
• Prepare maps, sketches, and supporting materials.
• Coordinate with internal teams and external partners.
• Maintain datasets and prepare planning reports.
