Job summary

Capital Area Transit System (CATS) seeks a detail-oriented Transit Planning Analyst to support planning, evaluation, development, and continuous improvement of fixed-route transit services in Baton Rouge, LA.

You will collect, analyze, and interpret ridership, performance, demographic, and geographic data to evaluate existing services and identify improvement opportunities. This role collaborates with multiple departments to ensure data-driven, feasible, and community-responsive planning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Demonstrated ability to collect, organize, analyze, and interpret data.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel or comparable spreadsheet/data-analysis tools.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to translate analytical findings into practical recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Analyze ridership, on-time performance, and route productivity to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
• Support development of route alignments, schedules, and service changes based on data.
• Maintain and report data from CAD/AVL, scheduling, ridership, GIS, and related sources.
• Conduct field observations and travel-time studies to support planning recommendations.
• Prepare technical documentation, maps, and presentations for planning decisions.
