Job summary

The City of Fredericksburg, Virginia is seeking a Transit Planner to support the Transit Strategic Plan, manage projects, and analyze routes and services to improve punctuality and ridership. The role emphasizes data collection, analysis, and public-facing outreach.

Knowledge of ADA standards and Title VI populations is valued. Ideal candidates have a Bachelor’s degree in transportation or urban planning and experience with GIS, ITS, and Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in transportation planning, urban planning or related field; transit/local government experience preferred.
• Minimum of one year of responsible administrative work.
• Knowledge of transit operations, government laws, regulations.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word/Excel/PowerPoint).
• Experience with ArcGIS, GIS software, and Intelligent Transit Software (ITS).
• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite.

Responsibilities

• Recommend changes to bus routes and paratransit services to improve punctuality and ridership.
• Assist in developing the Transit Strategic Plan and ensure ADA and Title VI compliance.
• Gather and analyze data to support scheduling, route design, and planning.
• Support communications and outreach; prepare reports and publication materials.
