Job summary

BRC, through its Transit Homeless Outreach program in New York City, seeks an Outreach Specialist to meet chronically homeless individuals where they are and guide them toward housing and stability. You will be part of a field-based, 37.5-hour weekly team dedicated to 24/7 coverage.

Ideal candidates have a bachelor’s or equivalent experience, strong communication and documentation skills, and a valid driver’s license with willingness to travel across boroughs.

• Strong communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build trust and work effectively in the field.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel across boroughs.
• Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct compassionate, street-based outreach in transit locations.
• Connect clients to housing, medical, mental health, and substance use services.
• Complete brief assessments, provide escorts, and make referrals.
• Document outreach activity and client interactions.
• Work primarily at high-need areas, including end-of-line stations.
• Collaborate with partner agencies and outreach teams.
