Job summary

The City of Glendale Transportation Department invites applications for a Transit Operator to provide safe, reliable bus and paratransit service. Ideal candidates have one year of transit bus or passenger van experience and may have prior work with elderly or disabled riders.

A valid Class C CDL with Passenger endorsement is required within 45 days of hire. Salary ranges from $40,680 to $61,019 annually, with a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• One year experience operating a transit bus or passenger van.
• Experience working with elderly and disabled persons preferred.
• Knowledge of basic first aid procedures.

Responsibilities

• Operates a microtransit, paratransit or fixed route bus as directed by dispatcher or data tablet.
• Completes daily safety checks (oil, fuel, fluids, doors) and logs maintenance.
• Assists passengers, including elderly and disabled, with boarding/alighting.
• Operates wheelchair lift for riders unable to use stairs.
• Transports equipment and secures items with tie-downs; assists with loading/unloading packages.
• Uses two-way radio and mobile data tablet to receive instructions and update dispatcher.
• Collects fares and completes related paperwork.
• Provides information on microtransit/paratransit and ADA services; issues ADA cards.
• Records all stops, prepares accident reports, and compiles reports required by federal regulations.
• May respond to medical situations and administer first aid.
• Trains new employees.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
