Job summary

Transdev is seeking a General Manager in Essex, NJ to lead the operation of our transit services, ensuring safety, reliability, and client satisfaction. You will oversee the management team, drive financial performance, and manage contracts and assets with a strong focus on KPIs and union relations.

Ideal candidates will have a four-year degree or equivalent experience, 5+ years in fixed-route or paratransit operations, and proficiency with MS Office. This role requires travel <10% and compliance with DOT and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Completion of a four (4) year college degree in a relevant field is desirable, although a combination of relevant experience and education will be considered.
• Experience in Business Administration, Logistics, Transportation, or a related field, or equivalent business experience preferred.
• At least 5 years of experience managing a fixed route or paratransit bus operation of similar size and scope.
• Knowledge of relevant federal and state employment laws.
• Thorough knowledge of transit system regulations and operations.
• Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with clients.
• Ability to manage cost control and financial budget.
• Working knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong written and oral communication skills; excellent presentation skills; ability to influence people at all levels of the organization.
• Ability to organize and perform work efficiently; strong attention to detail.
• Ability to navigate Labor Relations issues and work effectively with union partners, including labor grievances and negotiations.

Responsibilities

• Continuously builds relationships with employees, the client, union partners, and the local community.
• Sets commercial and operational strategic direction for the business unit team according to location/client contract.
• Leads the management team and employee workforce to achieve safety, service, and financial objectives.
• Identifies, suggests, and develops business growth opportunities.
• Optimizes asset return including vehicle scheduling, maintenance, and performance management.
• Identifies and analyzes KPIs to maintain positive results.
• Ensures services are within budget and drives efficiency improvements.
• Determines and delivers the business unit budget.
• Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations and Transdev safety standards.
• Oversees staff management and training development with corporate liaison.
• Ensures environmental compliance and sustainability management.
• Provides complete data collection, analysis, and reporting.
• Other duties as required.
• Travel outside area: <10%.
