Job description

General Summary

As a Mixer Driver (Booster), you drive and operate a concrete mixer truck to deliver concrete as directed, checking concrete for quality before leaving the plant and during placement at the project site, while maintaining courteous public and customer relations. You work under the direction of dispatchers, batch plant operators, and Concrete Division supervisors. Must possess a CDL B license in good standing and a valid DOT medical certificate.

Minimum Requirements
  • A CDL Class B license with driving experience. Preference given for experience driving a ready‑mix truck. Must maintain a valid DOT medical card and an acceptable driving record.
  • General education, grammar and arithmetic, GED or high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of world events and acceptable interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be self‑motivated, a team‑player with excellent interpersonal skills; able to maintain positive customer relations and act courteous and respectful toward others.
  • Must become a member of the ILWU Local 142.
Preferred Requirements
  • Valid Class B license with two years of truck driving experience.
  • Knowledge of ready‑mix properties.
Duties And/or Responsibilities
  • As a Driver, you will have the opportunity to:
  • Receive a batched load of concrete materials from a batch plant or transfer unit, check load for conformance with the sales invoice on aggregate type and size, proper slump and load size, and deliver as directed.
  • Check size of load and determine correct hydraulic pressure setting on the Booster Axle for proper load distribution and safety.
  • Take proper precautions in operating the vehicle to compensate for the high center of gravity and use good judgment in determining speed and angle when encountering X terrain.
  • Drive and operate a truck safely and responsibly, observing all traffic codes and conforming to established Federal and State regulations.
  • Collect cash on C.O.D. sales while following established procedures.
  • Perform pre and post operational checks, including checking oil, water, and fuel levels, all light systems, braking system, and tires to ensure safe equipment operation.
  • Report any unsafe condition or mechanical defect of the truck daily using the DOT vehicle condition report.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and proper appearance of the truck and drum, cleaning out concrete buildup when required.
  • Assist mechanics or other tradespersons on emergency repairs.
  • Lift a 40 lb chute at least eight times a day and climb up and down the rear pedestal ladder six times per day.
  • Perform similar, comparable, or related duties as may be assigned or required.

  • Ability to work efficiently and timely when dealing with a perishable commodity.

  • Basic knowledge of truck tracking/dispatching software.
