Job summary

King County Metro Transit is seeking a Mechanical Engineer IV to lead major transit facility projects, focusing on HVAC, utilities, fueling, and maintenance systems. You will coordinate across electrical, structural, and civil teams, review consultants, and support construction with submittals and inspections.

The role emphasizes collaboration, rigorous design, and achieving LEED/green-building objectives while maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders and regulatory agencies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in engineering; five years' engineering experience or equivalent.
• Five years’ Professional Engineer license (PE) in WA or ability to obtain via reciprocity within six months.

Responsibilities

• Develop and analyze project alternatives; prepare mechanical designs, specs, and cost estimates for transit facilities (HVAC, utilities, fueling, fluids).
• Coordinate mechanical designs with electrical, structural, and civil units.
• Review consultant predesigns, designs, specs, and cost estimates.
• Assist project managers with scopes, budgets, and schedules.
• Provide engineering support to construction managers (submittals, field inspections).
• Support Metro stakeholders and regulatory agencies; build internal/external relationships.
