Description

The City of Fayetteville is recruiting for a Transit Maintenance Manager responsible for managing, supervising, planning, and coordinating the Vehicle Fleet and Facilities Maintenance operations of the Transit Department. The role includes ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, supervising staff, and performing complex tasks related to fleet maintenance and facilities repair.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Recommend and implement goals, policies, and priorities; establish schedules and methods for fleet repair and maintenance; coordinate repairs across shifts; record and reassign tasks as needed.
  2. Manage the vehicle fleet and facilities maintenance programs; plan, prioritize, supervise, and review staff work.
  3. Participate in purchasing transit vehicles and equipment; monitor maintenance accounts and grants; handle purchase orders, invoices, and procurement of parts and fuel; manage warranty claims and repair costs.
  4. Coordinate maintenance services with other divisions and outside agencies; maintain accurate records; prepare reports and correspondence.
  5. Hire, train, motivate, evaluate staff; provide training; address deficiencies; enforce discipline.
  6. Supervise diagnostics and repairs on various transit equipment; assist mechanics; inspect work; ensure safety practices.
  7. Inventory assets; prepare vehicles and equipment for disposal and auction.
  8. Evaluate and recommend vehicle technology and equipment; manage maintenance software; stay current with training and updates.
  9. Participate in payroll functions, including reviewing and approving timesheets and leave requests.
  10. Oversee facilities cleaning, maintenance, and renovation projects; manage vendor relationships.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience and training that provide the required knowledge and abilities, typically including:

  • Six years of progressively responsible experience in vehicle and fleet maintenance and repair, including four years in administrative and supervisory roles.
  • Equivalent to an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university, or specialized training in maintenance and repair of fuel-powered equipment.

Licensing & Certifications:

  • Required: Valid North Carolina Class B Commercial Driver’s License with passenger and air brake endorsements (ability to obtain within six months if not already held), and ability to obtain a North Carolina State Vehicle Safety Inspector’s license and an OBD2 emissions inspector license within six months.
  • Preferred: ASE certification for Automotive, Heavy Truck, or Bus.
