Job summary

The DGS Office of External Affairs in Illinois seeks a Transit Operating Program Manager to oversee public transportation operating assistance funding programs and grants across northern Illinois, excluding the Chicago metro area.

This role provides technical guidance on federal and state compliance, administers grants, reviews funding applications, and serves as the state's primary contact for operating programs in the region, with statewide travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in transportation management, business administration, public administration, accounting, or planning plus two years of related experience, OR eight years of related experience in transit operations.
• Experience and knowledge working with state and federal funding programs and grants
• Knowledge of financial management and general accounting principles
• Ability to manage and analyze large amounts of data and assignments
• Strong interpersonal and cross-functional communication skills
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel statewide

Responsibilities

• Manages operating assistance funding programs and grants across northern Illinois (excluding Chicago metro area).
• Provides technical guidance to urban and rural transit communities on federal and state compliance.
• Administers grants and reviews funding applications.
• Serves as the state's primary contact for operating programs in the region.
