Job summary

The Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority (TheRide) is seeking a full-time Fleet Services Technician / Diesel Mechanic in Ann Arbor, MI. This role focuses on skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair of light and heavy transit equipment under general supervision.

Shifts are determined by union seniority, with evening and weekend work likely. Prior experience with motor coaches is not required, and employment may include ASE-certified pay bonuses up to $3.20/hour for qualifying

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair light and heavy transit equipment under supervision
• Perform routine maintenance and repair of system components (excluding major diesel engine repair)
• Assist in rebuilding vehicles and accessories including fare meters, interiors, electronics, hydraulics, and transmissions
• Plan and organize daily maintenance activities with team members
• Inspect equipment in shop and field, perform temporary or emergency repairs as needed
• Prepare specifications for vehicles and machines used in repair and maintenance
• Create and maintain work orders, parts requisitions, and hour reports
• Read and use shop manuals, diagnostic software, diagrams, and schematics
• Diagnose defects using tools and diagnostic equipment
• Handle hazardous materials safely and in compliance with procedures
• Inspect others’ work to assist in diagnosis and repairs
• Enter and analyze maintenance data in the Maintenance Management Information System
• Perform major repairs including diesel engine, gasoline engine tune-ups, EFI and Allison transmission repair
• Coordinate with Parts and Stores to manage parts and supplies
• Maintain cleanliness and safety of the work area
• Perform other duties as assigned
