Job summary

High Valley Transit is seeking a Mechanic to join our maintenance team. You will help keep our fleet—vans, cutaway buses, and full-size transit buses—safe, reliable, and road-ready.

You’ll diagnose and repair diesel and electric drivetrains and perform preventive maintenance to ensure riders reach work, school, and home safely. The role emphasizes hands-on work, accurate record-keeping, and adherence to safety standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Vocational/technical automotive or diesel training preferred.
  • CDL Class B preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • Familiarity with electric vehicle systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on vans, cutaway buses, and transit buses.
  • Service and repair diesel and electric drivetrains, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools.
  • Perform routine inspections in compliance with DOT and other safety regulations.
  • Maintain accurate service records and work orders in the fleet maintenance system.
  • Complete road calls and emergency repairs as needed.
  • Order parts and maintain inventory of commonly used components.
  • Ensure all work adheres to safety protocols and manufacturer specifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on vans, cutaways, and full-size transit buses
  • Service and repair diesel and electric drivetrains, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools and equipment
  • Perform routine inspections in compliance with DOT and other applicable safety regulations
  • Maintain accurate service records and work orders in the fleet maintenance system
  • Complete road calls and emergency repairs as needed
  • Order parts and maintain inventory of commonly used components
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with safety protocols and manufacturer specifications
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational/technical training in automotive or diesel technology preferred
  • Valid driver's license required;
  • CDL (Class B) preferred or willingness to obtain;
  • Diesel engine experience is a plus but not required — training available for the right candidate;
  • Familiarity with electric vehicle systems a plus;
  • Working knowledge of brake systems, HVAC, electrical systems, and preventive maintenance procedures;
  • Ability to use diagnostic scan tools and standard mechanic's hand/power tools;
  • ASE certifications a plus (or willingness to pursue);
  • Willingness to take direction and coaching;
  • Team-oriented mindset — willing to share knowledge with other mechanics in the shop
