Job summary

Bay Area Rapid Transit is seeking Fare Inspection Officers (FIOs) to promote fare compliance and public safety across BART stations and trains. You will engage with diverse riders, verify fare eligibility, and issue citations when necessary, while upholding policies and providing customer service.

The position requires a High School diploma and at least two years of direct public contact experience. This is a full-time, on-site role with variations in shifts and weekends.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of full-time public contact experience involving interpreting and/or enforcing regulations or assisting the public.
• Possession of a High School diploma, GED or recognized equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Perform general fare enforcement within BART Police jurisdiction under applicable laws and ordinances.
• Check fare eligibility, issue citations for non-compliance and educate patrons on payment rules.
• Operate fare inspection equipment and record citations and incidents clearly and accurately.
• Conduct security checks of stations and trains; report hazards and suspicious activity to dispatch.
• Maintain orderly relations with diverse riders and assist patrons with directions and information.
• Participate in outreach and education regarding fare payment requirements and policies.
