Job description

Transit Engineer

As a Transit Engineer within HDR's Transportation Business Group, you will design and support rail projects, leading teams, managing project phases from site feasibility through construction, and contributing to the development of safer, more efficient, and sustainable transportation systems.

Responsibilities

• Serve in a technical role, under the direction of a Project Manager.
• Oversee the work of EITs and Junior Project Engineers.
• Prepare detailed engineering designs for rail projects.
• Take responsibility for project involvement, ranging from site feasibility analysis to final design and through the construction phase.
• Perform other duties as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years' experience in transportation design – transit projects.
• Preference given to candidates currently residing in the NY Metropolitan Area.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree.
• Professional engineering license recognized by the appropriate licensing board (e.g., PE or P.Eng).
• Hands‑on experience with MicroStation, OpenRail Designer, AutoCAD, and Civil3D.
• Must be able to work both independently and in a team setting.
• MS Office software experience.
• Excellent oral and written communication and project management skills.
