Qualified applicants will hold a CDL Class B with Air Brake and Passenger Endorsement, have high school diploma or GED, and possess at least 1 year of relevant driving experience or a CDL with passenger endorsement.

Qualifications

• Must have a CDL Class B with Air Brake and Passenger Endorsement.
• Authorized to operate a University-Owned Vehicle per UT System Policy 157 and undergo 36-month MVR history checks.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience driving a shuttle/bus/tram/large vehicle, or hold CDL with passenger endorsement and no air brake restriction.

Responsibilities

Scope of Job:

To provide skilled work in the routine operation of shuttles,trans, passenger vans, buses and other vehicles. Performs routine(journey-level) motor vehicle operations. Responsible for the safeoperation of University vehicles and provide quality customerservice to passengers.

Description of Duties:

• Drives and operates assigned vehicle over designated route orto specific destination.
• Prepares and maintains records pertaining to vehicle operation,including completion of mileage reports.
• Performs daily vehicle inspection and reports neededadjustments or repairs to Supervisor or Vehicle Services.
• Ensures timely scheduling and performance of vehiclemaintenance.
• Ensures vehicle passenger capacity is not exceeded.
• Fuels vehicles.
• Performs minor maintenance and cleaning of vehicles.
• Adhere to timely performance of service to meet requiredschedule.
• May be required to transport supplies and/or materials.
• Performs related work as assigned.

PerUniversity of Texas System Policy 157, applicants will be subjectto a motor vehicle record check for their most recent thirty-six(36) month history. Out of State Drivers are required to submit a36-month history MVR from their prior State of residence(s).

Required Experience:

One (1) year of experience driving a shuttle, bus, tram, comparabletruck, or passenger van on a commercial basis, OR havingsuccessfully acquired a class B or higher CDL with passengerendorsement and no air brake restriction while employed as atransit driver in training with UTRGV.

Equipment:

Ability to operate vehicles of the type owned by theUniversity.Preferred: Ability to use automotive tools inperforming minor repairs. Experience working with ADA equipment,i.e. wheelchair lift.

Working Conditions:

Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties.Exposure to weather and driving hazards. This position will besubject to a pre-employment physical, motor vehicle record check,criminal background, and drug & alcohol random exams. Thisposition is classified as a safety sensitive position in accordancewith FTA's rules and regulations. UTRGV is a distributedinstitution, which may require presence at multiple locationsthroughout the Rio Grande Valley.

As part of their essential duties, employees in these roles areexpected to maintain a consistent, in-person presence on campus attheir assigned locations. Limited exceptions may apply forpositions that are approved as hybrid or fully remote in accordancewith UTRGV policies.

Other:

Knowledge of motor vehicle operations, passenger, traffic rules andregulations, ensuring proper maintenance of motor vehicles andexercising proper safety precautions when operating a vehicle.Skill in operating motor vehicles. Ability to follow schedules andinstructions in operating vehicles and to follow practices inloading and unloading cargo.
