Job summary

Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) seeks two Transportation Construction Inspector Intern / Co-Op to work full-time onsite from January through June. You will assist the Construction Inspector and Resident Engineer by reviewing contractor work for compliance with contracts, plans, and specifications, and help prepare reports for payments.

Responsibilities include inspecting materials, performing load counts, taking samples for lab testing, and documenting daily diaries.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in an undergraduate/bachelor’s degree program for entire duration of employment.
• Completed at least one year of college coursework (27 credits) meeting engineering/related criteria.
• Strong Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and database applications skills.
• 0–2 years of capital, construction, or engineering experience (incl. internships/co-ops).
• Excellent English communication skills, written and oral.
• Highly organized with strong analytical and multitasking abilities.
• Interest in public service, transit, or transportation.

Responsibilities

• Review construction work to ensure conformance to plans and specifications.
• Compute construction quantities and assist in preparing reports for payments.
• Inspect materials and sitework for conformity to specifications.
• Assist in inspections and investigations of field problems and safety issues.
• Maintain daily project diaries, test reports, and related records.
• Assist with load counts and sampling for lab testing.
• Participate in meetings and field activities as required.
