Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) seeks a Transit Adjudication Bureau Senior Hearing Officer to conduct fair and impartial administrative hearings on Notices of Violation. The role enforces TAB policies, evaluates evidence, and issues decisions in accordance with law.
The Senior Hearing Officer provides supervision and training to Hearing Officers, ensuring consistency in decisions, quality control, and effective adjudication within TAB.
This position is not eligible for telework. The selected candidate is required to work on site and must report to their assigned work location.
The Transit Adjudication Bureau (TAB) Senior Hearing Officer conducts fair impartial and timely administrative hearings related to Notices of Violation issued under MTA Rules of Conduct. The Senior Hearing Officer evaluates evidence, applies applicable rules and procedures, and issues decisions and orders in accordance with applicable statutes, rules, policies, and procedures.
In addition to performing Hearing Officer duties, the Senior Hearing Officer provides supervision, training, and operational support to ensure the effective and efficient adjudication of cases within the Transit Adjudication Bureau. The Senior Hearing Officer assists with the day-to‑day supervision of Hearing Officers, ensuring consistency in decision‑making, adherence to legal standards, and compliance with TAB policies and procedures. This position plays a key leadership role in maintaining quality control, operational efficiency, and the professional development of TAB's adjudication staff.
Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to manage a high-volume caseload in a fast‑paced environment.
Strong judgment, attention to detail, and decision-making skills.
Proficiency with TABIS, Microsoft Office, Windows, LexisNexis, and related systems.
Public sector legal experience, particularly within New York City or New York State government.
Based on evaluation of education, skills, experience, interview, and written assessment.

Travel may be required to other MTA locations or other external sites.

Final salary is determined by experience, skill set, and alignment with compensation practices. The posted range reflects expected compensation and may be updated as market or business needs evolve.
