Job summary

UMC Health System is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist responsible for testing patient specimens, ensuring test accuracy, and communicating results to providers. Reports to the Supervisor, Medical Laboratory.

Qualified candidates hold a bachelor’s degree in Biological Science, Medical Technology, or related field and must demonstrate precise specimen handling, quality control, and clear communication with clinical staff.

Qualifications

• Proficient in identifying patients, labeling specimens, and ensuring proper sampling for tests.
• Able to use computer peripherals effectively.
• Clear communicator; English fluency required.

Responsibilities

• Performs high complexity tests as directed by Laboratory Director, operating equipment used in quantitative or qualitative analysis.
• Test patient specimens and maintain quality control; ensure correct patient identity throughout testing.
• Recognize and investigate unexpected, uncontrolled, or unacceptable results.
• Identify problems that may affect test performance or reporting and document corrective actions.
• Ensure CAP, AABB, DNV, and FDA requirements are followed as applicable.
• Maintain equipment operational by calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
