Qualifications

  • Board certification or eligibility in Transfusion Medicine.
  • Strong interest in and/or documented experience in laboratory management.
  • A scholarly record of publication in books and peer-reviewed journals.
  • Full, unrestricted medical licensure in Virginia.
  • Commitment to respect and civility toward diverse faculty, staff, and students.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical: Serve as Transfusion Medicine/Apheresis attending with medical direction of related services; oversee QA and safety in transfusion components.
  • Service: Participate in departmental, institutional and national committees as needed.
  • Teaching: Engage in educational activities for residents, students and staff; develop workshops at multiple levels.
  • Research: Contribute to clinical research, publications, and involvement in professional organizations.
  • Report to Division Chair and support the Department of Pathology mission.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Clinical: Serve as Transfusion Medicine/Apheresis attending.Medical direction of blood bank related clinical services, asneeded. Provide medical oversight to all medical, technical andregulatory processes and procedures, including quality assurance.Promote the use of safe and effective blood transfusion componentsand services throughout the medical center, working closely withclinicians in hematology, oncology, stem cell transplantation,neurology, obstetrics and cardiothoracic and trauma surgery.
  • Service: Participation in departmental, institutional andnational committees when necessary.
  • Teaching: Participation in the educational activities ofTransfusion Medicine including: (1) didactic presentations, rounds,and seminars involving residents, medical and graduate students,and dental and allied health students; (2) continuing education forfaculty, nurses, allied health personnel, and community physicians;and (3) development of workshops at the local, state, and nationallevel.
  • Research: Scholarship primarily in Pathology throughpresentations at national meetings, developing clinical researchcollaborations, contributions to peer-reviewed scientificliterature, active participation in appropriate professionalorganizations is required.
  • The faculty member will report to and work closely with theDivision Chair to further the mission and vision of the Departmentof Pathology.

  • Board certification by the American Board of Pathology incombined Anatomic and Clinical Pathology or Clinical Pathology, orboard certification in adult or pediatricHematology/Oncology
  • Board certification or eligibility in TransfusionMedicine
  • Strong interest in and/or documented experience in laboratorymanagement
  • A scholarly record of publication in books and peer-reviewedjournals
  • Full, unrestricted medical licensure in Virginia
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment ofrespect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty,staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or acommitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
