Job summary

Duke University Hospital’s Duke Health laboratories are seeking a Medical Lab Scientist in Transfusion Services to join the team on the Mon-Fri 3:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. shift. This role supports testing and transfusion services in a CAP/CLIA accredited environment.

Bachelor’s in CLS or Medical Technology preferred; certification is optional. The position emphasizes accuracy, quality control, and collaboration with clinicians to ensure timely, reliable results.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Clinical Laboratory Science; or Medical Technology required.
• Certification preferred.
• Experience: None required.

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of tests in clinical laboratories using standard techniques and equipment.
• Operate manual or computerized instrumentation.
• Calibrate and maintain instrumentation according to SOPs.
• Process patient samples for testing with proper ID procedures to ensure quality materials.
• Perform basic troubleshooting of assay problems as directed by senior staff.
• Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
• Participate in development of new medical laboratory tests and techniques.
• Prepare for lab inspections and review procedures for accuracy.
