Job summary

Southern Company is seeking an experienced engineer to support transformer assets across its footprint, focusing on generation facilities. You will work with plant personnel, project managers, system owners, SCM, and vendors to enhance transformer reliability, maintenance, procurement, sparing, and problem resolution.

The role involves collaboration across sites, participation in fleet initiatives, and leadership in transformer spare parts and activity planning within a hybrid field/office

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong presentation skills to convey technical concepts.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety and quality are top priorities in transformer activities.
• Provide engineering support to site engineers, owners and project managers.
• Develop and maintain technical specs for medium & large power transformers.
• Review vendor drawings and test reports for compliance with standards.
• Witness factory inspections and acceptance testing of new transformers.
• Support field and factory repairs including failure analysis and corrective actions.
• Contribute to condition-based maintenance and reliability initiatives.
• Lead transformer fault investigations and root cause analysis.
• Coordinate quarterly switchyard meetings to address transformer issues.
